The Lung Association's Annual Residential Canvass starts today!

Saskatoon, June 1, 2006 - June heralds the Lung Association's annual Asthma & Allergies Residential Canvass.  During our June 1 “ 7 blitz days, thousands of dedicated volunteer canvassers will be hitting the streets in communities across Saskatchewan, inviting people to donate to the Lung Association.

Asthma is a chronic lung condition characterized by one or a combination of the following breathing problems:  cough, wheeze, shortness of breath, or chest tightness.  In Saskatchewan, 16 “ 21% of school age children and 7.5% of the adult population are affected by asthma.  This serious lung disease is the leading cause of emergency room visits in children aged one to four.

Donations from our annual residential canvas help fund the work of world-renowned researchers at the University of Saskatchewan in the fight against this disease.   Please visit our website at www.sk.lung.ca to learn more about the Lung Association and our asthma programs and education initiatives or call our Saskatoon office and speak with a certified asthma educator at 1-888-566-LUNG (5864).

You will find the Lung Association, the premier source for respiratory health initiatives in the province, active in your community conducting programs on topics including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and sleep apnea, providing training for health professionals, delivering health education in schools, facilitating patient support groups, and lobbying for clean air.

When a volunteer canvasser knocks at your door, please give generously!   Donations can also be made on our secure web site at www.sk.lung.ca/donation, by mail or by contacting the Lung Association.
