(Toronto) “ On Tuesday, December 4, 2007, The Canadian Lung Association was pleased to present its 2007 Christmas Seal, œHoliday Ice, to both Prime Minister Stephen Harper, and Leader of the Opposition Stéphane Dion, in meetings in their offices on Parliament Hill. The Christmas Seal paintings were presented by former NHL Star and 2007 Christmas Seal Spokesperson Ron Ellis (Team Canada '72, Toronto Maple Leafs) and Nora Sobolov, President and CEO of The Canadian Lung Association.
We were immensely pleased to have the opportunity to present the Christmas Seal to both the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition, said Nora Sobolov, President and CEO of The Lung Association, The support of the government and the official opposition in developing solutions to rising rates of respiratory disease in Canada has been invaluable and we look forward to working with them in the future to improve the lung health of Canadians.
By presenting this Seal to both leaders we were able to personally thank them for their parties commitment to building a healthier Canada, and to underscore our continuing desire to work with them on ensuring that all Canadians can breathe easier. added Ron Ellis, 2007 Christmas Seals Spokesman.
In addition, as part of The Lung Association's partnership with the Canadian Hockey League, a hockey jersey with the CHL logo was presented to the Prime Minister by Mr. Ellis.
The Canadian Lung Association is also in the process of making arrangements to present the Christmas Seal to NDP Leader Jack Layton.
The Holiday Ice Seal features a group of children getting set to play a game of shinny on an outdoor pond. Canadians will see an instant connection between hockey games of old played in the bitter grip of winter played on a makeshift rink on the farm, and today's games when a whole new generation are apt to drop the puck anywhere from a street, to a yard to the local arena.
By ordering a copy of the Holiday Ice print, Canadians will be supporting the Christmas Seal campaign and helping to improve the lung health of their friends, families and neighbours. Prints can be customized to reflect the logo and team jersey of participating CHL teams, and will be signed and numbered by the artist.
