Kickin' Ash has received a $64,000 federal grant to train 120 aboriginal youth as anti-smoking educators in the hopes of reducing smoking rates among urban aboriginal youth in Saskatchewan.
"The aboriginal youth tobacco cessation project was started because aboriginal people, and aboriginal youth in particular, have the highest smoking rate in Canada, and something needs to be done about it. A lot of money goes into the First Nations, but urban aboriginal youth are overlooked,' said Sue Deranger, one of the program's designers.
