Dr. Gordon Ford, 2012 Award of Merit Recepient

Dr. Gordon Ford is a respirologist who is professor emeritus at the University of Calgary. He is a past president of the Canadian Thoracic society and a very respected researcher and clinician in the Canadian respirology community.

Last fall Dr. Ford was recruited to conduct an external review of respirology services in Regina through a joint agreement by the Lung Association of Saskatchewan and the Regina-Qu’Appelle Health Region.

Dr. Ford visited Regina in November and conducted a very thorough review. In addition to his visit he read through hundreds of pages of reports and sifted through a mountain of data.

In his final report, Dr. Ford outlined the challenges that face respiratory care and made several recommendations to improve the care of lung disease in Regina.

Dr. Ford’s report is already having an effect. His top recommendation was recruitment, and it appears that after more than 10 years of seeking a new respirologist, a new recruit has been found – thanks in part to having Dr. Ford’s review.

In recognition of the service that Dr. Ford provided, which went above and beyond the call of duty, we are pleased to present him with the Award of Merit.
