The Canadian Thoracic Society is delighted to join the Canadian Lung Association, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health (ICRH), and the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute in announcing the creation of the Canadian Respiratory Research Network (CRRN). This announcement comes as part of the CIHR’s official launch of three pan-Canadian research networks including the Canadian Stroke Prevention Intervention Network, the Canadian Vascular Network, and the CRRN.
The CRRN will support a national network of investigators to facilitate the execution of innovative, collaborative research that ultimately impacts respiratory health outcomes. In addition, the network will include a comprehensive training program that will promote interdisciplinary research and offer support to new researchers.
Initially, the CRRN will focus on chronic lung diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma to address the burden associated with these diseases. Other lung diseases will be incorporated as the network matures.
Funding for this network is being provided through the Canadian Institutes of Health Research in partnership with the Canadian Lung Association, the British Columbia Lung Association, GlaxoSmithKline Inc., AstraZeneca, Novartis Pharmaceuticals Canada Inc. and Boehringer Ingelheim (Canada) Ltd.
