The Breathe Easy Beach Volleyball Party is taking place on Friday, June 20th from 11:30 AM to 8:30 PM at the Regina Rugby Club. Teams may register up to 6 players, registrants must be 19 years of age or older and there will be a maximum of 16 teams. Registration fees are $150 in donations to the Lung Association. Please access the Lung Association's website at www.sk.lung.ca/beach to download your registration materials and for information about COPD and emphysema.
Emphysema damages and destroys lung tissue and large air pockets develop in the lungs. Because the lungs have lost their elasticity, air becomes trapped in the lungs making it difficult to expel air. With severe emphysema this causes the person to not only struggle to breathe, even with minimal activity, but experience fatigue, says Jan Haffner, Vice President of Health Initiatives for the Lung Association. COPD is on the rise in Canada and around the world. More than 750,000 Canadians suffer from this disease and hundreds of thousands more have COPD but have not been diagnosed.
