Artist Leah Dorion is The Lung Association’s Juried Art Contest Winner
Saskatoon, November 29, 2010 – The Lung Association of Saskatchewan has something to celebrate. In 1911, as the Saskatchewan Anti-Tuberculosis League, we became Saskatchewan’s first health charity. We opened our doors to the public to treat tuberculosis (TB) and operated sanatoria in Fort Qu’Appelle, Saskatoon and Prince Albert.
On February 17, 2011 we are celebrating 100 years of service to the residents of Saskatchewan. To raise awareness about TB and help commemorate our milestone year a juried art contest, open to artists across our great province, was launched. Artists were asked to explore family and community relations to tuberculosis and/or lung health in Saskatchewan. We are pleased to announce that our winner is artist, Leah Marie Dorion, with her original artwork entitled ‘Sacred Breath’.
Dorion describes Sacred Breath as “a unifying act of humanity as we all need access to healthy clean air to sustain life now and for the future generations”. Those views are shared by our Association as “the air we breathe is vital to the health of our lungs. We need to protect it - both outside our homes and inside where we live, work and play,” says Brian Graham, The Lung Association’s President and CEO.
