Ottawa chided over pesticides

Ottawa — The federal government is approving new pesticides without basic information, such as how they act in the environment and whether they harm children.

Hundreds of pesticides have been approved on a temporary basis in recent years despite crucial gaps in information about their effects, Environment Commissioner Johanne Gélinas reported Tuesday.
