The Saskatoon Health Region has frozen the hiring of staff for its Sleep Disorders Centre even though about 2,000 people are waiting for an overnight test at the clinic.
The centre has enough equipment to run 42 studies per week but, because of a staff shortage, only 16 are being conducted, according to Dr. Robert Skomro, the medical director of the Sleep Disorders Centre at Royal University Hospital.
The Lung Association of Saskatchewan has been lobbying both the health region and the provincial government to come up with more money to fund the sleep disorders centre. It's also started a petition.
