2006 Ferguson Lecturer

 Novel Approaches to Vaccination:Challenges & Opportunities

Dr. Lorne Babiuk is a world expert and sought after adviser and speaker globally in infectious diseases and their control, specifically by vaccination.  He is a Fellow of the Infectious Disease Society of America, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and European Academy of Sciences.
 
He has published over 450 peer-reviewed manuscripts and over 90 book chapters and reviews, and is holder of 24 issued patents and 18 patents pending. He has also received numerous competitive grants from national and international agencies.  Dr. Babiuk’s special areas of research include molecular virology, vaccinology, immunology, and viral pathogenesis with emphasis on respiratory and viral infections.

Dr. Persaud is a community-based allergist and pediatric specialist who has been invaluable to children, families and fellow health care professionals in our province.  He has been a great supporter of the Discovery Asthma Camp for Kids, encouraging children who are diagnosed with moderate to severe asthma and under acceptable control to attend this unique camp experience.  He has also served on the SK Thoracic Society Executive Committee as Program Chair from 1995-1997, and has lectured at the annual professional education day. In addition to his professionalism, Dr. Persaud’s great sense of humour has been known to add a special depth to meetings and conferences.
