Drivers, stop your engines
To discourage vehicle idling, it has to be more than illegal - it has to be socially unacceptableAlison Crowe
The Globe and Mail, September 10, 2007
Leaving your car to idle does not save gas, unless your dash into the store really does take just 10 seconds. It's harder, not easier, on the engine, because it runs at less than peak temperatures, resulting in incomplete burning. That, in turn, creates fuel and water condensation that can damage, among other things, cylinders, spark plugs and the exhaust system.
